Herts Phoenix Athletic Club fielded a strong, multi-generational squad across track and field events at the Round 4 fixture in Stevenage. Competing against rival clubs including Stevenage & HAWCS, Huntingdon, Ilford, Ealing Southall & Middlesex, and St Albans, the team displayed great versatility with several excellent results. The finishing position was 4^th.

🏃‍♂️ Men’s Team Performance

The men’s squad saw exceptional work rates from standout athletes who dominated both track and field positions:

• Sprints : Daniel Skilbeck(U20) was the A-string athlete and winner for the 100m. Other sprinters were Scott Gunning 100m and 200m and Oliver Curran 200m
• Heavyweight Throws Mastery: Veteran athlete Jason Kingwell (M55) shouldered the entire throwing lineup contesting the Shot Put, Discus, Hammer, and Javelin. Other throwers were Charlie Durr, Alex  Stapleton and Oliver Curran
• Jumps: Charlie Durr and new comer Samuel Boboye placed 3^rd and 1^st respectively in A and B string High Jump with Long Jump Daniel Skilbeck and Alfredo Whitehead-Benitez scoring valuable points. The triple jump was covered by Aidan Wadley and Alex Stapleton.
• Track Other track events were covered by Oscar Edmondson 400m A-string coming 2^nd, Alex Stapleton winner of 400m B-string, Sean Mazur in A-string 800m and Aidan Wadley 800m B-string- both coming 3^rd in their races. Adam Wadley (1500m A-string) and Thomas Anderson (1500m B-string) ran great races in the heat as did Sam Pedley (3000m A-string). Grant Ramsay (M50) added valuable veteran points in the 2000m steeple chase

🏃‍♀️ Women’s Team Performance

The women’s contingent mirrored this exceptional work ethic, with several athletes picking up multiple roles across different technical boundaries:

• Sprints & Mid-Distance: Serena Thomas (SW) swept the fast lanes in the A-string 100m and 200m. Victoria Akhigbe (U18) backed her up perfectly in the B-string 100m and 200m
• Jumps and Hurdles: Ena Olivier (U23) commanded the short hurdles tracks, placing 1^st in A-string 100m hurdles and 2^nd in A-string High Jump with Sophie Segun taking 1^st in B string 100m hurdles. New comer Precious Agbeniyi jumped a PB and came 2^nd in the B- string high jump. Long Jump was covered by Isabella Bolger and Victoria Akhigbe and triple by Paige Wadley and Sarah Gaynor both placing 3^rd.
• Throws Prowess: Arabella Ashby (U18) Imogen List and Lizzy Every covered the heavy field events and javelin scoring good points between them.
• Other Track Paige Wadley handled the 400m A-string, Allegra Thornley covered the 400m B-string, and Bethany Botheras raced the 800m A-string with Issy Hawks coming 2^nd in B-string.  Mastery in master’s athletics was visible with Zoe Stephens (W40) taking on the tough 1500m/3000m double alongside Yvonne Jones (W60) and Sarah Gaynor (W65) completing the 1500m steeplechase.
• Relays The women won the 4x100m relay very convincingly and then, the last event of the day – the 4x400m mixed relays – always an exciting watch.

Both our A and B string teams ran Boy, Girl, Girl, Boy and both won in spectacular fashion creating an amazing finish to the day
