Met League - Race 3: Wormwood Scrubs Race Report

Race 3: Wormwood Scrubs

A strong team of Herts Phoenix athletes raced in the 2025 Met League cross country league on Saturday 6th December at Wormwood Scrubs.

Representing the club in the first race of the day was Henry Bostock (7th) in the U11 boys recording his highest finish so far this season, followed by Missy Steel (22nd) and Becky Maiden (24th) in the U11 girls.

In the U13 boys race, Josh Maiden raced well against strong competition, finishing a very close 2nd  overall, and leading the team home to a first place finish, along with George Sims (13th), Thomas Summers (14th), and Zephyr Macalister (20th) as the scoring team. This result further strengthens their strong second place in the team table for the season so far.

In the junior boys, Jake Summers paced his race well to finish in 3rd, and first under 15. Freddie Hollings-Yates (12th), Alexander Shoesmith (19th) and Jake Whitaker (23th) completed the first scoring team, placing third team in the race overall. Overall, in the season so far the junior boys are in second place.

In the junior girls, Cora Naylor (6th), Penny Field (13th), Jess Lane (22nd)  and Eloise Steel (27th) formed the scoring team, and are sitting in third place for the season overall this far.

In the senior races Ellie Mason again was the sole representative for the senior women. The senior men’s race was won convincingly by Oscar Bell, following on from his recent excellent 11th place finish at the Liverpool Cross Challenge. This race had the highest turnout so far this season for the senior men, with a squad of 13, including first time appearances for Herts Phoenix at the Met League for Mayank Mishra (113th) and Nick Axam (169th).

Thank you to all the athletes, parents and coaches for support on the day and as the Met League progresses this season.  Next race is our home race in Welwyn Garden City on 6th January, where we want to see as many of you as possible.
