Herts Phoenix Athletic Club Match Report
Stone X stadium 5th July 2026 for the EYAL match
Dear All,
Thank you to all the athletes who came to Stone X stadium last Sunday for the EYAL match. It was a great day and I am delighted to share that we won the match, with the U14, U16 and U18 boys all coming 2nd in their respective age groups, the Under 14s were only 4 points behind Thurrock.
This is the first time we have won a match and we are now in 5th place in the league. This puts us in a great position, with only one match to go, to reach the Cup/Plate final on 6th September. Please save the date.
We had 41 male athletes competing including 5 athletes competing in the EYAL for the first time. Our boys team achieved 47 PBs between them.
Did anyone leave a black and white spotty lunch bag behind? I took it home with me so please let me know if it’s yours.
Once again thank you to U16 Jack Wright who moved up an age category along with those of you who helped fill in gaps. Thank you also to all the officials and parents who helped our officials on the field which resulted in us picking up additional points.
A few of the key achievements:
- U14 Alex Westgate won the A string 100m in a personal best of 11.47 seconds. This time ranks him 3rd in the UK in his age group.
- U14s Joshua Maiden and Thomas Summers came 1st and 2nd in the 1500m race therefore securing maximum points for the club.
- U14 Daniel Nunn beat his personal best by over two metres to record a distance of 30.04 metres and come 2nd in the A string javelin.
- U14 Emmanuel Nelson recorded a PB of 4.77m to come 2nd in the A string long jump.
- U14 Freddie Durr won the hammer and the discus. He also came 2nd in the B string shot put.

- U16 Samuel Grimsley ran like lightning to record personal bests in both the 100m (11.15 seconds) and the 200m (22.49 seconds), unfortunately for Sam, the wind gauge was only slightly over the maximum allowed for records/PBs. He won the B string 100m and the A string 200m.
- U16 Lewis Herbert also found his top speed on the Stonex track and recorded personal bests in the 100m hurdles, 100m and 200m

- U16 Frank Rozanek won the long jump and came 2nd in the triple jump.

- U16s Miles Boston and Isaac Redmond scored fantastic points in the javelin. Miles achieved a personal best of 43.73 metres to finish 2nd in the A string. Isaac threw a PB of 28.58 metres to win the B string.
- U18 Aston Oakley won the A string 400m
- U16 Jack Wright ran in the Under 18 1500m race and came 2nd in a time of 4:22.85. Freddie Hollings-Yates won the B string. Freddie also achieved a PB of 1.65m in the high jump to win the B string and he came 3rd in the triple jump.
- U18 Charlie Durr came 2nd in the A string shot put with a huge PB of 11.80 metres. He also came 3rd in the A string long jump.
Male athlete of the match goes to Under 14 newcomer Freddie Durr who competed in hammer, shot and discus. He won the hammer (18.07m), won the A string discus with a throw of 25 metres and came second in the B string shot put to score a huge 20 points for the club (the maximum number of points you can score as an individual is 21).
I received the updated results only yesterday and hopefully they will be on Power of 10 shortly
The next match is on Sunday 16th August in Bedford so please look out for my email which I will send in a fortnight’s time when I’m back from my holiday. There are no non-scorers allowed in the Finals so the 16th August will be the last opportunity this year for athletes to compete as a non-scorer.
Kind regards,
Natalie Jewell
